2024 National Championships Volunteer RecruitmentThe 2024 Bowls Scotland National Championships take place at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr from Saturday 27th July – Saturday 3rd August and we’re now looking for volunteers to assist at one of Scotland’s largest annual sporting events. Over the week over 1,500 players and 7,000 spectators will pass through the gates at the home of Scottish bowls, we have a number of roles required to be carried out and no previous experience is required. These include: • General Admission and Tickets Sales • Information Booth Attendants • Cloakroom Assistants • General Marshalling • Photography & Communication Support • Live Scoring Assistants • Hospitality Co-Ordinators • Other General Event Roles If you’d like to volunteer at the National Championships, please complete our short sign-up process here: https://forms.office.com/e/7uMqxXXU1e. Scottish Disability Sport Week 2023 - Rosemary LentonAs we partner with Scottish Disability Sport and the wider sporting network for #ScottishDisabilitySportWeek, we are pleased to share a video from ITV Borders which features one of our most inspiring athletes, Rosemary Lenton. At 74-years-old Rosemary has shown no signs of slowing down as she won gold in the Para Women’s Pairs at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games alongside Pauline Wilson. The same pairing then travelled to Australia earlier this year for the 2023 World Bowls Championships and returned home with a silver medal. In the winter, Rosemary turns her attention to curling and has competed in numerous major championships over the years. It’s amazing to see the wider sporting community also recognise Rosemary’s remarkable achievements as she was crowned Para Athlete of the Year at the Scottish Women in Sport Awards in 2022. Mary Wilson Bowls Scotland and Erskine Partnership AmbassadorScotland para international Mary Wilson has been appointed as the first ambassador for the Bowls Scotland partnership with Erskine Veterans Charity. The high-performance bowler, 59, made her Scotland debut at the Home Nations competition in 2021 following a distinguished club career at Trinity Bowling Club in Edinburgh. Mary is currently Ladies President at Trinity as well as being the Ladies Head Coach at Dudley Bowling club, also in Edinburgh. However, it is Mary’s background in the Armed Forces which makes her the perfect fit as the partnership’s ambassador. She joined up aged twenty-nine, the oldest recruit in her intake, before going on to serve 20 years in the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps.
